What Is a Nerve Block?
A nerve block is an anesthetic and anti-inflammatoryReduces inflammation injection targeted toward a certain nerve or group of nerves to treat pain. The purpose of the injection is to block the pain signal coming from a specific location in the body or to decrease inflammation in that area.
By performing a nerve block and then monitoring how you respond to the injection, Dr. Elain and Dr. Yee will use this information to help determine the source of the pain and to develop a treatment plan tailored to you and your body.

What Are Trigger Point Injections?
Trigger points are isolated places in the muscle where pain exists or causes referred pain. According to Chinese medical theory, painful trigger points are referred to as an “ah shi” points – or tender regions of the body. Many factors can lead to the development of a trigger point, these include, but are not limited to, acute injury, wear and tear, and poor posture.
When left untreated, trigger points can cause tight knots or ropy bands to develop in the muscle, leading to tension and aches. The blood and energy flow within these regions is impeded and promotes painful, involuntary muscle contraction. Injecting small amounts of anesthetic and steroids into these trigger points can alleviate pain and promote free blood flow and energy in the treatment area. The increase in blood circulation is what helps to eliminate pain, promoting muscle relaxation and healing.
What Can I Expect During Treatments?
You will probably feel a “pinch” when a needle is inserted. As soon as the medication is delivered, though, you should feel less discomfort. Sometimes the needle has to be inserted fairly deep to reach the nerve causing your problem. This can be temporarily uncomfortable, but it is important to hold still so that the needle is inserted correctly.
What Should I Expect From the Results?
After the injection, you will experience a sensation of pain relief in the area injected. This will typically last up to one or two weeks, or even permanently in some cases.
